LGBTQ Sensitivity Training Now Offered by Fiesta Youth!

As society as a whole becomes more tolerant of different lifestyles, the workplace is starting to become more tolerant, as well. Gay marriage is now allowed throughout the USA. You may work with a man or woman who is openly and happily married to someone of the same gender. They may even have children.

As recent as just 20 years ago, a gay, lesbian, or transgender person would have stayed "in the closet" for fear of risking their professional career; that's not the way it is today. As likely as it is that you work with someone who's married to a person of the same gender, it's also likely that you work with a transgender – or people whose gender identity is not the same as their birth gender. Your organization may even allow for a transgender to use the bathrooms of the gender they identify with – and not their birth gender. Your organization's insurance plan may even cover treatment for gender identity disorder.

It's just as important for you to be respectful and sensitive with members of the LGBTQ community as it is with any other group in the workplace. This means confronting your own beliefs, feelings, and values about gays and lesbians, recognizing stereotypes, and learning to effectively work with, and communicate with, those whose lifestyle is not like yours – and may be one you don't agree with.

Fiesta Youth is proud to provide a one hour facilitator lead course for free to any business, school, or organization that believes it would benefit from a session that can help its workforce become more accepting of the LGBTQ population and try to understand how we all can work together for the common good and goal of an organization, business, or school. If interested please contact us below.

Provide: Contact name, email address, business, organization, or school name, contact phone number, and number of people that would be attending the session. Please provide at least 1 month lead time in order for us to schedule the session in advance.

Fiesta Youth partners with Greater San Antonio YMCA!

Fiesta Youth is proud to be partnering with the Greater San Antonio YMCA this fall for additional programming nights to offer our youth.  With this partnership we will offer additional programming to the youth of San Antonio at the YMCA at Tri-Point.  Working together with such an established organization is exciting for us and will offer our youth a more exciting experience and show how opening up our arms to the greater good of our society teaches everyone to be happy with who they are and open with others on what they want to become no matter their differences.  We thank the Greater San Antonio YMCA on this opportunity and hope to grow this partnership for many years to come!

Fiesta Youth celebrates 5 years!

On September 23, 2018, Fiesta Youth celebrates their 5th anniversary in our great city of San Antonio.  We will be holding the celebration at The Candlelight Cafe - 3011 N Saint Marys St, San Antonio, Texas from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. The celebration will include guest speakers, music, free appetizers, anniversary cake, and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided.  Cash bar (beer and wine) will be available on site. The Fiesta Youth mission is to provide a safe, non-judgmental, affirming place for LGBTQ young people to express and explore who they are through education, peer-support, advocacy, and friendship.

Fiesta Youth began in the summer of 2013, with a mom’s (Founder - Emily Leeper) quest to help her teenage child find support and resources for LGBTQ youth in San Antonio; our nation’s 7th largest city at the time. She found nothing. She reached out to members of the LGBTQ community and our allies and the idea of bringing a LGBTQ teen and young adult support program to San Antonio was born. On Tuesday, September 10, 2013, the doors of Fiesta Youth swung open and we waited for the first teen to arrive. Since then, we have been welcomed hundreds of LGBTQ youth and allies, who have walked through that door.  With the support of our local business, donors, sponsors, friends, families, and supporters we have raised thousands of dollars to continue that same mission.  We have extended our programming to the local San Antonio Public Libraries with our Lit out of the Closet programming and will soon offer additional programming days with the YMCA of Greater San Antonio at Tri-Point and the South San Independent School District in the Fall of 2018.

We are proud of our present and excited about our future and we welcome everyone to come and celebrate with us at our 5th Anniversary celebration.

San Antonio Library and Fiesta Youth - Dedication of a LGBTQ Selection

June 10, 2018 - Fiesta Youth and the San Antonio Library system will dedicate the book selections Fiesta Youth has donated to the library as part of the partnership it holds with the library system, Lit Out of the Closet, a monthly LGBTQ programming night for teens 12-18.  These selections were picked from the National Library Association Rainbow Book List.  The book selections will be available across all San Antonio Library locations along with their eBooks available online.  We are proud of this partnership with the San Antonio Library.  We hope to continue this partnership and dedicate even more books in the years to come.

Our city's library system is the first major library system in Texas to cooperate long-term with an LGBTQ youth organization - and we believe that this is a powerful sign of San Antonio's growing love for its LGBTQ citizens.  Look for our LITOUTOFTHECLOSET Instagram page for upcoming programming information.  We are proud of this partnership with the San Antonio Library.
