Transgender Day of Remembrance
Transgender Day of Remembrance is the annual coming together of trans people and our allies to recognize and mourn the transgender individuals violently taken from us in the past year. The rise in media attention and the discriminatory legislation we’ve seen these past few years have not created a safer space for the American transgender population, and as usual trans women of color have unfortunately born the brunt of America’s violence towards gender-nonconforming people.
San Antonio Gender Association annually hosts the observation of TDOR in solidarity with The Center - Pride Center San Antonio, Fiesta Youth and other local LGBTQ+ organizations. This year it’s especially important that we come together as a community to remember the twenty-one victims in the US and many more across the world. We will come together, read their names and stories, and remind the world that they lived, and were unjustly killed. We cannot let these attacks, both legislative and literal, stop us from honoring their memory.
Please join us on Tuesday, Nov. 20th. Please help us to remember those we have lost, in the hopes that their memory will create a safer future.
